The UKAEA has made a £300,000 investment in a training centre at the Dounreay site in Scotland.
The Learning, Education and Development (LEAD) centre was opened by deputy enterprise and lifelong learning minister Lewis Macdonald on 28 July and is intended to provide training and skills opportunities for UKAEA staff as well as contractors at Dounreay and other UK sites being decommissioned.
Dounreay site manager Norman Harrison said: “This investment underlines UKAEA’s commitment to establishing Dounreay and Caithness as the leading centre for development for the skills we need at Dounreay and throughout the UK.”
The decommissioning of the Dounreay experimental fast reactor is worth about £80 million per year to the Highlands region and accounts for 3000 Scottish jobs.
