The French nuclear safety authority, the DSIN, has given the go ahead for fuel reloading at the Chooz B1 reactor. Chooz B1 is one of three French reactors which were shut down on 12 May following a loss of coolant incident on another reactor of identical design, Civaux-1.

The loss of coolant occurred as the result of a design fault which allowed the mixing of hot and cold water. The temperature variations caused a crack to form.

Following the incident Electricité de France unloaded fuel from the reactors in question and, with help from Framatome, began a refit, introducing a redesigned section.
