The 580 MW Duane Arnold plant, a single unit BWR located near Palo in Iowa, is set to be sold at auction. Interstate Power and Light Companywhich owns 70%, the Central Iowa Power Cooperative which owns 20% and the Corn Belt Power Cooperative which owns 10% are to take part in a competitive auction process and hope to have completed the deal by July. For the past five years the Nuclear Management Company – an organisation owned by a consortium of nuclear utilities, including owners of Interstate Power, Alliant Energy – has operated the plant which began commercial operations in June 1974. The plant is licensed to operate until 2014.
