ASE, part of Russian state nuclear corporation Rosatom, will complete engineering surveys at the 5th and 6th units of Hungary’s Paks NPP (Paks-II), this year, according to ASE's annual report for 2015. The document also says that the development of a technical project and preliminary report on ground security for Paks-II is scheduled for this year. The Paks NPP currently has four operating VVER-440 units s, which produce over 50% of Hungary’s electricity.
At the end of 2014, Russia and Hungary signed documents on the construction of units 5 and 6 with VVER-1200 reactors. Russia agreed to provide a €10bn ($11.4bn) loan to Hungary to finance the project. In November 2015, the European Commission opened an infringement procedure against Hungary to determine whether the financing of the Paks project complies with EU public procurement rules.
