France-based Framatome and TechnicAtome have announced the acquisition of Segault SAS from Canadian group Velan Inc. Segault designs and manufactures a range of high-performance valves for extreme use situations, particularly in the civil nuclear and defence sectors. Segault will retain its historical name but with a new visual identity.

Paris-based Segault, founded in 1921, specialises in the design, qualification and manufacture of a wide range of valves. Segault valves equip the reactor buildings of a quarter of the nuclear power plants in operation worldwide, as well as the nuclear boilers on board submarines and the French aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle.

“We are both delighted and proud to welcome Segault to Framatome. Segault is a key supplier to the nuclear industry, renowned for its expertise in providing valves that meet stringent safety and security requirements,” said Framatome CEO Bernard Fontana. “This acquisition is part of our growth strategy and will secure the supply chain for our customers. By integrating these key competencies, we are bolstering our industrial sovereignty and our capacity to meet the critical needs of our sectors of activity. The acquisition of Segault reinforces Framatome’s valves product line.”

TechnicAtome CEO Loïc Rocard noted: “Our relationship with Segault is longstanding as their specialised expertise aligns perfectly with our needs. With this acquisition, we are continuing our efforts to strengthen the supply chain for nuclear propulsion and French deterrence.”

Framatome also announced the acquisition of Velan SAS from Velan Inc. The company has been renamed Valserve with a new visual identity. Valserve specialises in the design, manufacture and maintenance of nuclear valves for civil and military reactors and low-temperature cryogenics.

“We are both delighted and proud to welcome Valserve to Framatome. This acquisition, along with the recent integration of Vanatome and the acquisition of Segault SAS, is in line with our growth strategy and will strengthen our supply chain for our customers,” said Fontana. “By incorporating these key competencies, we are bolstering our industrial sovereignty and our capacity to address the critical needs of our sectors of activity.”

Lyon-based Valserve was established in 1974. Valserve valves equip more than 350 nuclear reactors globally and numerous other installations in the energy sector. Framatome said the acquisition, along with the recent acquisitions of Vanatome in June 2024 and Segault “enable the creation of a dedicated valves product line within Framatome.
