Framatome has been selected by Swiss operator Kernkraftwerk Gösgen-Däniken (KKG) for the long-term supply of high thermal performance (HTP) fuel assemblies and related services to its Gösgen NPP. The contract covers reload deliveries and related in-core fuel management services from 2026.

Gösgen NPP is operated by KKG on behalf of its five owners: Alpiq AG (40%), Axpo Power AG (25%), the City of Zurich (15%), Centralschweizerische Kraftwerke (12.5%) and Energie Wasser Bern (7.5%). The single unit NPP began commercial operation in November 1979. The 1010 MWe pressurised water reactor generates about 13% of Switzerland’s electricity needs.

“KKG is a longstanding customer, and Framatome has supplied fuel to the Gösgen plant for decades,” said Lionel Gaiffe, Senior Executive Vice President, Fuel Business Unit, at Framatome. “We are pleased to continue to support KKG through the long-term delivery of our safe, reliable and high-performance HTP fuel.”

For over 45 years, Framatome and KKG have collaborated on fuel research and development. This encompasses a broad range of material irradiation programmes on fuel components and various advanced fuel designs including Framatome’s PROtect Enhanced Accident Tolerant Fuel (E-ATF). The first operating experience with E-ATF technology was undertaken by KKG at Gösgen in 2016 and, in 2024, Gösgen became the world’s first reactor to operate with full length fuel rods above 60 GWd/tU.
