Framatome announced it has signed a contract with RWE Nuclear GmbH to provide consulting and support services for the development of an autonomous cybersecurity solution, for a nuclear facility at a shutdown nuclear power plant in Germany.
Framatome said it "will consult on the implementation of the IT security infrastructure legal requirements and support the client’s project team in complying with the requirements for equipment selection, installation and approval."
The scope also includes the construction of a new guard station and operations building, installation of security fence detection equipment, and other cyber services to enhance security in existing systems.
Framatome said that all systems "must run in a self-sufficient network within the premises without direct access to the internet and protected against external attacks". Establishment of the facility is divided into two phases:
- plant security self-sufficiency, and
- construction of a new administration and technical building including a control room for the operating team and the security service.
The project is expected to be completed in 2024, Framatome added. RWETI GmbH will be responsible for operational project management, various specialist functions, construction management and ongoing contract management.

"This project supports long-term efforts related to dismantling and decommissioning German plants, as well as Framatome’s goals outlined in its international cybersecurity road map."
Framatome said it is leveraging the cybersecurity expertise of US-based FoxGuard Solutions for the European industry through the launch of FoxGuard EU, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Framatome.
