The first steam generator for a Chinese-designed Hualong One nuclear power reactor has been shipped by Dongfang Electric for unit 5 at China National Nuclear Corporation’s Fuqing nuclear plant in Fujian province.
The ZH-65 steam generator has a lifespan of 60 years with lower outlet humidity and a higher power-weight ratio than previous technology. It was developed by a team led by Zhang Fuyuan, chief designer at the Nuclear Power Institute of China.
The Fuqing site hosts six units. Fuqing 1 began commercial operation in November 2014, Fuqing 2 in October 2015, Fuqing 3 in October 2016 and Fuqing 4 in September 2017 – all 1087MWe CPR-1000s. Fuqing 5&6 will be China’s first two Hualong One reactors.
Construction of Fuqing 5 began in May 2015, and it is expected to start up in 2019.
