The UK Atomic Energy Authority is a non departmental government body carrying out research into the potential of nuclear fusion as a future source of energy.
The authority operates mast, which forms part of the UK & European Fusion Programme with the aim of magnetically confining and studying the behaviour of a plasma in conditions and dimensions approaching those required in a fusion reactor.
MAST upgrade is a programme designed to update the machine and push the limits of operations even closer. The upgrade to the machine is to include a new Helium Cryogenic Plant for which the authority requires:
- the design, manufacture and supply of Ultra High Purity Gaseous Helium Buffer Tanks which supply a Helium Compressor which itself supplies a Helium Liquefier.
- the design, manufacture and supply of a 2 000 L to 5 000 L vacuum insulated liquid helium dewar. The scope of the contractor’s work may also include (assistance with) installation and/or commissioning.
- the design, manufacture and supply of a 50 000 L vacuum insulated liquid nitrogen storage.
The scope of the contractor’s work may also include (assistance with) installation and/or commissioning.
This PIN has been published to enable market research to commence to asses the reaction of the market to the proposed requirement and review available technologies. The authority will conduct a dialogue with the marketplace. This may result in a call for competition based on the content of the requirement achieved through the dialogue.
