GDES is providing maintenance to the Civaux nuclear power plantSpanish company GD Energy Services (GDES) has been awarded a new contract by EDF for the surface maintenance of four reactors at two nuclear power plants in France.

The initial five-year contract is for provision of surface treatment and anti-corrosion coating for the exterior and interior of the reactors at the Blayais and Civaux nuclear plants. There is an option for further three-year contract extension, GDES said.

For this project, GDES plans to deploy six professionals at each of the nuclear power plants, as well as a support team that will be required for additional tasks that arise during the course of the contract.

“These tasks are essential to guarantee the correct maintenance of buildings and structures, protecting the plant against erosion and corrosion,” GDES said.

The company already provides maintenance services for the St. Laurent, Bugey, Cruas and Tricastin nuclear plants. With this new contract, GDES is now responsible for maintenance services at 12 of France’s 56 operating reactors.

“To be in charge of surface and coating maintenance services for 21% of all French nuclear facilities is a great achievement, the result of our efforts and our commitment to offer innovative, reliable and quality services, as strategic allies to our clients; and it is a sign of the impact that we hope to make in France in the coming years,” said Héctor Dominguis, CEO of GDES.

GDES has been operating in the French nuclear market for more than a decade, reaching a turnover of 18 million euros in 2019.
