The German government has agreed to an amendment of the energy law whereby imports of “dirty electricity” will be forbidden. Foreign nuclear power plants that do not fulfil German licensing conditions will be prevented from exporting electricity to Germany. Following ratification of the amendment, the federal minister for economics, Dr. Werner Müller, will draw up the criteria for which imports are admissable. The amendment also requires the German gas companies to open their pipes for gas from third parties.
