Holtec International has received a turnkey contract for up to 26 HI-STORM Systems with MPC-68 multi-purpose canisters from the Southern Nuclear Operating Co for use at the Hatch plant in Georgia, USA.
The HI-STORM 100 System is a metal/concrete vertical ventilated cask capable of storing a family of multi-purpose canisters. The MPC-68 canisters have a capacity of 68 BWR spent fuel assemblies, and can be directly transferred into Holtec International’s HI-STAR 100 dual-purpose cask system for off-site transportation following interim storage on-site. The HI-STORM 100 System is currently undergoing licensing certification review by the NRC. System deployment is scheduled for late 1999 with additional cask deliveries scheduled for 2000-2003. The order also includes the supply of auxiliary, handling, and transfer equipment to safely load and operate the cask system at Hatch.
