The full-scope simulator for the Chinese-developed Hualong One reactor has been installed for Fuqing 3&6 in Fujian province, China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) announced on 14 September. The simulator exactly replicates the control room of Fuqing 5 – the first of two demonstration Hualong One units at the site.

CNNC said the new simulator was delivered 115 days ahead of schedule. The simulator, developed by CNNC subsidiary Wuhan Nuclear Power Operation Technology Company Limited, uses a range of international advanced technologies to simulate plant operation under normal and emergency conditions. CNNC Wuhan has complete independent intellectual property rights to the platform and software.

Installation of the control room at Fuqing 5 was completed in August, marking the reactor's transition from the installation phase to the system commissioning phase, China Nuclear Industry 23 Construction Company announced.
Fuqing 5&6 had previously been expected to use the ACP1000 design reactors, but plans were changed following a re-organisation of the Chinese nuclear industry. China's State Council gave final approval for construction of Fuqing 5&6 in April 2015. First concrete for Fuqing 5 was poured in May 2015 and for unit 6 the following in December. The units are scheduled to be completed in 2019 and 2020, respecitely.
