During a meeting of permanent representatives of the European Union countries, Hungary won assurances that sanctions against the Russian Federation would not affect nuclear energy, and that the construction of new power units at its Paks NPP would not be affected, according to Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó.

"We managed to get the nuclear industry out of sanctions, so these sanctions do not apply to the construction of new power units of the Paks NPP. In addition, not a single institution that is important for cooperation in the field of nuclear research and development was included in the sanctions list ", Szijjarto said. He added that the Hungarian government will "continue to defend the national interests" of the country in the same way.
