Global joint integrity specialist Hydratight has significantly expanded its presence in the world power generation sector following the acquisition, by parent company Actuant, of engineering specialists Biach Industries.

Biach, founded in 1955, has a reputation for precision bolt tensioning in several fields, most prominently commercial nuclear power generation. In recent years the company, based in Cranford, New Jersey, has built world-leading expertise in reactor pressure vessel head applications. Over 90% of US commercial nuclear plants, and many experimental nuclear facilities, have Biach tensioning systems in use.

The company will be managed as part of the Hydratight business and its existing management team will remain in place.

Hydratight, already a world-class provider of engineering and joint integrity services to oil, gas and wind power in- dustries, sees the acquisition of Biach as a crucial element in developing its presence in the nuclear energy sector.

“We are very excited about this acquisition,” said Hydratight’s global marketing leader, Chris Mitchell. “We are com- bining the expertise of two industry leaders which will enable us to drive growth. “Biach is a perfect match for us. The Biach brand is strong and the range of products is a perfect extension to our tensioning portfolio,” said Mitchell. “The combination will create a complete joint integrity offering for the commercial nuclear power industry.”
