Hydratight has developed a new multi-stud control system, offering improved accuracy and benchmarked quality procedures in balancing disks within the rotor assembly. The system is now in use with General Electric.

The rotor assembly is a series of discs joined in parallel by ‘male’ and ‘female’ spigots. Heating mating discs presses them together. The cold male section is inserted into the hot female section. As the disc heats up, the male section expands, which can cause ‘spit out’ from the female section.

Hydratight’s system improves the quality and reproducibility of this operation. The nuts holding the discs in place are tightened hydraulically, each operation typically taking an hour.

Recording data during the process benchmarks best practice and allows for fine tuning.
