The International Atomic Energy Agency and China Atomic Energy Authority (CAEA) have signed a practical arrangement to strengthen their cooperation in the field of nuclear security. The agreement, signed in Beijing on 16 August 2010 by IAEA director general Yukiya Amano and CAEA chairman Chen Qiufa, will see the countries work together to improve security in the East Asia region.
The Practical Arrangements on Nuclear Security builds upon the 2007 arrangement between the two organizations and extends the IAEA’s existing cooperation with China. IAEA helped China improve radiological security in the wake of the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
