The International Atomic Energy Agency has issued a formal request to Pakistan for some components of a ‘discarded’ centrifuge for analysis related to the Iranian nuclear programme.
Pakistan has reportedly said that it may hand over components of the used centrifuges to the agency to help establish how far Iran’s nuclear programme has progressed through comparison with samples of uranium found by the IAEA in Iran. Pakistan confirmed earlier this month that AQ Khan, the father of the country’s nuclear programme, had clandestinely sold centrifuges to Iran.
The inspection would be carried out at the IAEA’s laboratory at Seibersdorf near Vienna.
