Proposals to transfer unused nuclear fuel from the shutdown unit 1 of the Ignalina nuclear plant in Lithuania to the still operational unit 2 are expected to save operators some €40 million.
According to reports from the Lithuanian News Agency, the move will save around 138 million litas in costs from buying more fuel and additional storage following closure of the second unit.
The first reactor was shut down at the end of 2004, the second is due to close in 2009.
