Ukrainian nuclear utility Energoatom said on 25 July that unit 1 of the Khmelnitsky NPP in western Ukraine will be back online in about two months following an unplanned shutdown. In a statement on its website, Energoatom said the reactor was disconnected from the grid on 16 July due to a coolant leak in one of the steam generators. Energoatom said the event was of no nuclear safety significance and had been provisionally rated as Level 0 on the International Nuclear and Radiological Event Scale. According to Energoatom, the shutdown coincided with a scheduled 60-day annual outage for the reactor. The Khmelnitski nuclear station has two Soviet-built VVER V-320 PWRs in commercial operation and two VVER V-392 PWRs are under construction.
