GE and EDF on 26 June signed a strategic cooperation agreement for the planned construction of six EPR reactors in India at the Jaitapur site in Maharashtra. The companies said it was an important step in implementing the Industrial Way Forward Agreement signed with Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd (NPCIL) in March. EDF will be responsible for engineering integration of the nuclear island, conventional island and auxiliary systems, and will provide all the necessary input data. GE Power will design the conventional island and supply its main components, as well as providing operational support services and a training programme to respond to the requirements of NPCIL. EDF and GE Power said they will now define the project’s technical options, fine-tune industrial arrangements between both companies and finalise the design-engineering and procurement schedule.
