The International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (Iter) fusion research project is to be joined by India following a recent decision by the existing Iter partners, China, the EU, Japan, Russia, South Korea and the USA.
The decision to accept India was made at a recent meeting of the project’s partners in Jeju, South Korea and although details of India’s participation have not yet been revealed, a statement from the Indian foreign ministry indicated that the country had been accepted “as a full partner.”
The research reactor is be built at Cadarache in France at an estimated cost of some €10 billion.
