Control room operators returned the Indian Point unit 2 nuclear power plant to service on November 24. The plant had automatically shutdown on November 7 following the failure of the plant’s main electrical transformer. Workers replaced the transformer with a spare that was located onsite. The transformer failed as a result of a failed high voltage bushing. Bushings connect the transformer to the overhead lines that carry electricity to the main electrical grid.
