India’s Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has achieved a major milestone with the dispatch of its 40th steam generator (SG) to the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd (NPCIL).
The SG will be installed in NPCIL's Rajasthan Atomic Power Project (RAPP).
BHEL has been supplying nuclear equipment to India’s nuclear facilities since 1976.
Of India’s 18 operating pressurised heavy water reactors (PHWRs), 12 (accounting for 74% of nuclear power capacity) are equipped with BHEL steam turbine generator sets (ten 220MWe units and two 540MWe units).
Recently, equipped with BHEL-supplied sets, the 220MW unit 1 at the Kaiga Atomic Power Station (KAPS), equipped with BHEL turbines and SGs set a world record for continuous operation of a PHWR.
