The first commercial plant to process mixed uranium and plutonium oxide (MOX) nuclear fuel in Japan is set to go ahead.
The governor of the Aomori prefecture, Shingo Mimura, is reportedly expected to sign the basic request by the end of the month, allowing Japan Nuclear Fuel to construct the plant at Rokkasho.
About 130t of MOX are expected to be produced annually at the new plant, which will cost some ¥120 billion ($1.1 billion) to construct.
