Kazakhstan’s National Atomic Company Kazatomprom announced on 5 May that it had signed a contract to supply of natural uranium to Dioxitek of Argentina.
Kazatomprom won a public tender for the contract in February to supply natural uranium concentrate for Argentina’s nuclear power industry.
Kazatomprom said the contract strengthens its presence in South America and also marks the renewal of cooperation with Argentina.
Kazatomprom is the world's largest uranium producer. Its attributable production represented about 24% of global primary uranium production in 2019.
Through its subsidiaries, JVs and associates Kazatomprom operates 24 deposits grouped into 13 mining assets. All mining operations are located in Kazakhstan and mined using in-situ recovery (ISR) technology.
Dioxitek is involved in the procurement and manufacturing of nuclear fuel for reactors in Argentina. The company is owned by the Argentinian Ministry of Energy, the National Atomic Energy Commission, and the Government of the Province of Mendoza.
