Russia’s Atomenergoproekt, part of state nuclear corporation Rosatom, has announced a "key event" in the construction of unit 2 of the Novovoronezh II NPP in central Russia in the tensioning by Moscow-based Sledyashchiye Test-Sistemy of the armature of the reactor's prestressing system. It is the first time a Russian company has undertaken such such work, Atomenergoproekt said, adding that foreign companies had performed the task at the Kalinin and Rostov NPPs. 1,114MWe VVER 1200/392M pressurised water reactor is the second of two such units at Novovoronezh II, the lead project for the deployment of the AES-2006 design incorporating a Gidropress-designed PWR. Unit 1 was connected to the grid in August last year and unit 2 is due to start operation in 2018.
