Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for business cooperation with the Czech State Atomic Energy Research Institute (UJV Rez) and the Czech State Atomic Energy Research Centre (CV Rez). Under the agreement, these organisations plan to cooperate in various fields such as R&D and various tests and certifications related to small modular reactors (SMRs), as well as the construction and operation of large NPP, KHNP said.

KHNP added that it had been actively discussing Korea's innovative SMR development plan by forming an industry-academy-research cooperation system to secure future growth engines and maintain the nuclear industry ecosystem since early 2019. KHNP has been co-operating in the nuclear power industry field with UJV Rez since August 2018. It said the new three-party business cooperation MOU “will serve as an opportunity for the domestic nuclear power industry to advance into Eastern Europe”. KHNP president Jae-Hoon Jeong said, “We expect this MOU to become a stepping stone for preemptively identifying the needs of countries that are demanding SMRs and for smoothly leading overseas exports of innovative SMRs.”
