The nuclear reactor of the Kursk submarine will be removed when the submarine is taken into the Nerpa nuclear reactor utilisation factory, and a plan for its use is expected to be finalised by the end of October.

Deputy prime minister Ilya Klebanov said that utilisation of the reactor would not start until the investigation group of the Russian General Prosecutor’s Office had started its work. Officials have yet to confirm a plan for retrieving the first section of the Kursk that is still lying on the bottom of the Barents Sea.
