Large profits could be in store for German utilities if a new government allows plant life extensions after the general election in September 2009.

According to the federal state bank of Baden-Württemberg a 25 year prolongation would give utilities profits of around EUR200,000 million: EUR95,000 million for E.ON; EUR61,000 million for RWE; and EUR45,000 million for EnBW.

In case of Christian Democratic Union/Christian Socialist Union and Free Democrats (FDP) winning the election the shares of these companies would also rise significantly.
