Dominion Energy has ordered reactor vessel heads from Framatome ANP for North Anna 1 and Surry 1. The order follows the recent supply and installation of a new vessel head at North Anna 2.

The new vessel heads will be supplied by Framatome ANP’s Chalon Saint-Marcel facility in France, where the company manufactures vessel heads and other major components. The vessel heads will be installed by Framatome ANP during scheduled refuelling outages this year.

The vessel head for North Anna 2 was delivered on 17 December, 2002. It was the first time the company shipped a major component by air, which was necessary in order to meet Dominion’s schedule for returning the unit to service. The vessel head was installed by Framatome ANP and North Anna technicians last month.

Meanwhile, at the end of December, Framatome ANP signed a contract with PSEG Nuclear for the supply of four replacement steam generators for Salem 2. This contract falls within the scope of a strategic alliance formed between PSEG and Framatome ANP. The new steam generators will also be manufactured at Chalon Saint-Marcel. Delivery is scheduled for the beginning of April 2006.
