Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) has announced investments of approximately ¥25 billion ($213 million) at its Takasago Machinery Works in order to boost production of power generation turbines.

One investment involves construction of a plant dedicated to production of steam turbines for nuclear power plants, aimed at further enhancing product quality and expanding production capacity.

Plans call for the plant to produce one of the world’s largest high-efficiency turbines, with blades in the 70-inch class (1.7m). The investment will span a three-year period beginning this year to establish a manufacturing structure by March 2011 capable of accommodating turbines for both replacement and new installations in Japan and overseas.
