Unit 3 of Japan’s Mihama nuclear station has been granted local government approval to restart following a fatal steam leak in August 2004 that killed five workers.
The Fukui prefectural and Mihama municipal governments have now agreed to the proposed re-launching of the 826MWe reactor, some 150km north of Osaka and owned by Kansai Electric Power Company. Central government approved the restart last March.
The unit is expected to resume operations in August.
