Unit 4 of China's the Yangjiang NPP in Guangdong province was connected to the grid on 8 January, China General Nuclear (CGN) announced. The unit, which is CGN’s 20th operational power reactor, will now undergo a load test run and other relevant testing before entering full-power demonstration operation. It is expected to enter commercial operation in the second half of 2017.
The Yangjiang site will host six units.The first four are 1080MWe CPR-1000 pressurised water reactors, and units 5 and 6 will be ACPR-1000s. Unit 1 entered commercial operation in March 2015, with units 2 and 3 following in June 2015 and January 2016. First concrete for Yangjiang unit 5 was poured in September 2013, and for unit 6 the following December. CGN said the unit are currently in the equipment installation phase, of which unit 5 marks the first application of a digital control system designed in China. All six reactors should be in operation by 2019.
Meanwhile, Harbin Electric Corporation has won a tender by China Nuclear Engineering Company Limited to supply the main coolant pumps for units 3 and 4 of the Changjiang NPP on the southern island province of Hainan. These units will feature Hualong One reactors, Harbin said on 12 January. The Changjiang plant currently comprises two CNP-600 units and is being built as a joint venture between China National Nuclear Corporation and China Huaneng Group, with shares split 51% and 49%, respectively.
