NAC International has won a contract to provide fuel transfer operations and related site services to the Yankee station in Rowe, Massachusetts. NAC will play a main role in the remaining decommissioning of the single-unit PWR by planning and executing the transfer of all spent nuclear fuel and greater than class C waste to an on-site independent spent fuel storage installation. It will operate and maintain the installation during fuel transfer operations and install, test and certify each vertical concrete cask positioned on the pad.
NAC plans to complete the site transition and mobilisation by mid-February 2001, with a target date for final acceptance by the plant of May 2002. The company is currently supplying 15 multi-purpose canister systems for the storage of 533 Yankee-class PWR fuel assemblies and one for greater than class C wastes. The first canisters were delivered to the site in January.
