Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) and NTPC Limited have signed an agreement to set up a joint-venture company to develop nuclear power projects in the country.

Dr. S.K Jain. Chairman and Managing Director NPCIL & BHAVINI and Shri R. S Sharma, Chairman and Managing Director, NTPC Limited signed the agreement in Delhi on 27 April. Also present were Chairman, Atomic Energy Commission & Secretary Department of Atomic Energy, Dr. Srikumar Banerjee, and Secretary (Power), Shri Harishankar Brahma.

The joint venture agreement envisages the incorporation of a Joint Venture Company (JVC) for setting up nuclear power projects in the country with a share holding of 51 % (NPCIL) and 49 % (NTPC). Currently, NPCIL & BHAVINI are the two companies authorized to set up nuclear power plants in India.
