Swedish energy consultant, ÅF, has been awarded a contract for design work on the nuclear island buildings of the Angra 3 nuclear power station, under construction in Brazil. The contract is valued at almost SEK 600 million (EUR 67 million).

The scope of the work includes the 3D Modelling of the piping, ventilation and electrical engineering design, technical support services and the as-built design for the nuclear island buildings.

ÅF is expected to begin working on the project in the third quarter of 2012, finishing in 2019. The project will be managed by ÅF Finland and will involve working with a significant number of local sub-contractors, the company said in a statement.

The contract is ÅF’s second with Brazilian nuclear power company Electronuclear . In January 2012, it won a contract worth SEK 100 million for consulting services relating to the construction of Angra 3.
