Pallas has chosen Besix as the contractor to build the pit and foundation for the Pallas Research Reactor. The Pallas reactor will be built at Petten to replace the existing 45 MWt High Flux Reactor (HFR) that began operation in September 1960. Following a tender procedure, a contract was signed with Besix which “has a strong reputation when it comes to complex projects and is known for the innovative way in which it integrates engineering and construction in its processes, Pallas said. “We have every confidence that Besix is the right partner for this phase of the project,” said Sietsche Eppinga, Construction Director Pallas.
Besix is to start work on the mobilisation of the work site during the first quarter of 2023. After that, work will start on the construction of the pit and foundation for the Pallas reactor. The works are expected to be completed during the 3rd quarter of 2024. “We are happy to be able to contribute to a project with huge social impact and importance to 30,000 patients a day who are dependent on medical isotopes from the Netherlands,” said Nic De Roeck, Managing Director Besix Nederland.
