CEZ creates nuclear arm

3 October 2002

The board of Czech national power utility CEZ has completed its restructuring with the creation of a special section for nuclear energy production. The section will have overall responsibility for the operation of both Dukovay and Temelin, in the hope that simplifying the management of the plants increases their efficiency.

The new management team has its first challenge, as unit 2 at Temelin, which was expected to be connected to the grid after reaching first criticality, has now been taken out of operation following the discovery of a faulty generator rotor. CEZ said it expected the outage to last for six weeks.
