As part of the commissioning work on the polar crane at unit 1 of the Akkuyu NPP under construction in Turkey, specialists of ESKM Corporation (Electrosevkavmontazh) have checked the electrical equipment. It was tested for compliance with the required parameters for such electric devices while secondary switching circuits and cable connections were also checked. The electrical equipment of the crane was then submitted to operating voltage for functional testing of the systems. Rosatom General Alexei Likhachev recently confirmed completion of unit 1 was expected in the third quarter of 2023.
Akkuyu is Turkey's first NPP and will eventually host four units of Russian-designed VVER-1200 reactors. The pouring of first concrete for unit 1 took place in April 2018, for unit 2 in June 2020, for unit 3 in March 2021, and for unit 4 in July 2022. Rosatom is constructing the reactors according to a build-own-operate model.
