Construction of the VVER-1200 reactors at Novovoronezh phase II in Russia, remains on track, Rusatom Overseas announced 21 November.
Atomenergoprojekt, general designer and main investor of the project, said that the Novovoronezh-2 NPP construction fully complies with the schedule. Two new power units are to be put into operation in 2014 and 2015, respectively, Rusatom announced.
During the first half of November 2012, the concrete foundations for the cooling tower of the second power unit at Novovoronezh-2 NPP were finished. The cooling tower for the first unit has already reached the 171 meters in height. By the end of 2012 the construction completion of the cylindrical part of the reactor building is planned at unit 2, as well the installation of a core catcher. Installation of the equipment of unit 1 is scheduled to be completed by end 2012.
Novovoronezh-2 NPP is being constructed in the European part of Russia, near river Don, 42 km south of the city of Voronezh. Investment in the construction of Novovoronezh-2 NPP in 2011 amounted to EUR 987.5 million, and an additional EUR 503.9 million is envisaged for 2012.
The VVER-1200 design is one of the contenders for the Temelin tender in Czech Republic, and is also under construction at Leningrad II and Baltic NPP in Russia.
