FENOC applies to extend Davis-Besse operating licence

1 September 2010

FirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Company (FENOC) has submitted an application to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) for renewal of the Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station operating licence.

The 908MW plant located in Oak Harbor, Ohio, is licensed to operate until 2017. If approved, licence renewal would extend operations for an additional 20 years, until 2037.

During the review process, the NRC will conduct several on-site audits of the plant's structures and components. In addition, an environmental survey will be conducted to ensure that continued plant operations have no adverse impact on local surroundings.
