GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy (GEH) announced it has been awrded a contract to provide outage services for Teollisuuden Voima Oyj's Olkiluoto nuclear power plant in Finland.
GEH said it will provide control rod drive mechanism exchange services for Olkiluoto 1 and 2 for the "remainder of the plant’s operating licence".
The first outage supported by GEH was recently completed, it added.
“GE has provided TVO with turbine and generator services and we are now proud to deliver under-vessel services to support the Olkiluoto plant,” said John Mackleer, senior vice president, field services for GEH.
The turbine services agreement, announced in March, covers maintenance and services on Olkiluoto’s two steam turbines and generators to help ensure reliable operation of the facility until 2038.
Two boiling water reactors at the Olkiluoto nuclear plant currently produce about one sixth of the electricity consumed in Finland.
TVO reported that this year's annual outages were completed on 8 June, after Olkiluoto 1 was reconnected to the national grid. OL2 underwent a refuelling outage, which was completed on 21 May.
The outages, which lasted approximately four weeks, "went smoothly" with a number of special arrangements in place to prevent coronavirus infections on the power plant site and in the surrounding area, TVO said.
