NWMO begins preparation to implement waste decision

4 July 2006

Following its recommendation on the long-term storage of Canadian radioactive waste, the country’s Nuclear Waste Management Organization (NWMO) has made personnel changes to prepare for the next phase of its mandate.

Board member Gary Kugler will become chair, while Elizabeth Dowdeswell, who led the study of management approaches as president, will continue to support the board as special advisor. She will lead the development of a collaborative process for siting the ultimate waste management facilities.

Ken Nash, one of the founding directors of the NWMO and the previous chair, will take over as president and CEO.
