The start-up of the Ohma nuclear power plant has been delayed by two and a half years. It is now scheduled to begin operation in November 2014, rather than March 2012 as originally planned.
J-Power said it has informed the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) of the changes, as required by the Nuclear Reactor Regulation Law.
Ohma, a 1383MW ABWR, is currently under construction in Aomori Prefecture, Japan. It will use an all mixed uranium-plutonium oxide (MOX) core, with the MOX fuel supplied from JNFL’s Rokkasho Reprocessing Plant.
The Rokkasho Reprocessing Plan, which will be able to reprocess 800t of spent fuel a year, is currently in its final phase of testing. It is scheduled to begin commercial operation in November 2008..
