Two consortia are set to bid for the contract to build the Belene nuclear plant in Bulgaria. A consortium led by the Czech Republic’s Skoda and including banks Citibank and Unicredito from the USA and Italy respectively, and a consortium led by Russia’s Atomstroyexsport and including Siemens and Framatome have acquired tender documentation.
The €2 billion project will see two 1000MWe reactors developed after the tender was launched back in May to complete the partially finished project. Bulgaria hopes to complete the construction of the plant by 2011.
