Unit 3 at Dukovany nuclear power plant in the Czech Republic has achieved a new rated capacity of 500MWe after a significant modernisation of the original 440MWe VVER unit.
The uprate is part of a longer-term effort focused on safety, updating and modernisation of equipment of all reactors at the plant.
The modernisation includes implementation of new improved fuel and the refurbishment of all safety and non-safety I&C systems. In addition, it was necessary to increase the efficiency and power of turbines by replacing high and low pressure parts, and, to refurbish the generator and output transformers. All new equipment meets current international safety standards.
After full completion of the modernisation of Dukovany nuclear power plant, its total increase of capacity will be 240MWe by 2012.
