Data from Russian research expeditions in the Kamchatka region of Russia’s pacific coast have shown that radiation leaked from the Fukushima Daiichi plant is thousands of times below radiation safety standards.
The mission from the Russian Geographical Society returned on 20 May.
A Russian expert reiterated that it was unnecessary for the general population to ingest iodine, even in small amounts. Yuri Raptanov, chairman of the Supreme Council of Russian public ecological organization Plantain said that two people had died from taking iodine.
