The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has approved a request by Virginia Electric and Power Company (VEPCO) to increase the generating capacity of its Surry Power Station by 1.6%.

VEPCO plans to increase the reactors’ output through primarily through more accurate means of measuring feedwater flow, which NRC has deemed to be safe.

The uprate, which will increase the capacity of units 1 and 2 from 842MW to 857MW, should be implemented by November 2010.
