During the second reading of the bill on nuclear energy, the Bulgarian National Assembly decided that the chairman of a State Agency for Regulating Nuclear Energy would be responsible for the safe use and management of nuclear energy, radioactive waste and spent fuel, replacing the present Committee on Peaceful Use of Atomic Energy. It was also decided that nuclear plants could be constructed in Bulgaria on the basis of a government decision at the proposal of the energy minister without requiring National Assembly permission.
